Do Christians Go To Heaven?
What does the Bible actually say about Heaven? How many times have you read in your Bible that the destination of Christians is Heaven? Well, the Bible never once says that Christians go to Heaven. Instead, the Bible teaches that God will create a new earth and that this will be the dwelling place of both God and man.
Revelation 21:1-3 “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself will be with them, and be their God.”
The Bible teaches that the current earth and heavens will be destroyed, and God will create a new earth and new heavens.
2 Peter 3:12-13 “Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with a fervent heat.”
Isaiah also talks about the new creation.
Isaiah 34:4
Isaiah 65:17
Isaiah 66:22
The Bible does say that Christians will inherit the Kingdom of Heaven, but we can see that the holy city, new Jerusalem will descend from Heaven to earth. The Kingdom of Heaven, God’s kingdom, will be on earth.
Isaiah 65:17-18 “For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.”
Isaiah 65:21-22 “And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.”
Isaiah is describing a world where people will live a life not so different from our own. We will work for our food and build our own homes. On that earth we will enjoy the work of our hands. Originally God put man in the garden of Eden. He told Adam to tend to the garden. God created the earth so that mankind could work it and tend to it.
Acts 3:21 “Whom the heavens must receive until the times of restitution of all things, spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.”
The world will be restored to the purpose God created it for. Right now Satan is the ruler of this world. His is a reign of chaos. God will destroy Satan and this earth; He will create a new earth and we will return to God’s design. We will live our lives on an earth ruled by God, and he will live on that earth with us.
